Assumption Worlds - 28th World Universities Debating Championship

If you are planning to purchase an aquarium, you will want to make sure that your fish stay healthy, and the only way to ensure this is by cleaning the tank regularly. Many small stores do not carry everything you need so you might want to visit a larger store, the larger stores have many more items in stock for you to purchase. The aquarium is the home the fish live in and must be maintained for the welfare of the fish.

Before even setting up your tank decide what kind of fish you are going to keep, some people don’t have much time on their hands and so low maintenance cold or easy to manage tropical fish are the best ways to go, for those with much more time and a higher level of commitment there are many varied species to chose from, including the easiest to care for fresh water fish to beautiful and fascinating marine fish.

Unfortunately rushing to the pet store and picking out the prettiest, most colorful and interesting looking tropical fish is not the best way to stock the tank. Some people have synthetic decorations and rock for there fish tanks.

If you are thinking about purchasing a fish for your saltwater tank you need to plan it out first and make sure that the fish you purchase can live in the environment with the other fish. The first step to your fish tank is setting it up and this is only the beginning. After the fish tank is setup you will need to make many adjustments, some of the adjustments are the water temperature, food and lighting, plus you must consider the items and decorations that you put into the tank.

A fish tank that is a salt water tank needs to mimic the ocean, the salt water needs to be the same salinity and the environment needs to be very similar. Once you get your tank up and running with no problems you will able to enjoy the salt water tank and the fish.

Lighting is actually as important as filtration it mimics the day light and the night so fish think they are in their natural habitat. When choosing a salt water tank and filtration systems it can be a very confusing process since there are so many to choose from. One of the most important things to remember is that filtration is very important when taking care of you tank.

For freshwater fish you may be able to get by without having one. Many people think it is easy taking care of a freshwater fish, but in reality there is work involved. At time you will need to clean your freshwater tanks, they do require cleaning, so you will need to remove the fish and place them somewhere else for the time being.

When decorating the fish tank the gravel will sit at the bottom, this make the tank much more interesting and it gives a more real feel to it. Fish tank gravel can be bought in either natural or colored designs.

There are many tanks of various sizes and shapes, when choosing the tank for you home make sure the tanks size fits and it won’t be in the way or accidentally knocked over.

June 30, 2006

Well, as much as the walking tour through Old Montreal nourished my senses and architectural sensibilities, my stomach was in dire need of nutrition and I was debating whether I should plunk myself down at one of the enticing terrace cafés on Place Jacques Cartier. Then I literally stumbled over this beautiful small park, Place De La Dauversière off to the side of the main square. In the southeast corner of this space is a little gate that looked like the entrance to a garden and with my perennial curiosity I had to go check it out.

The view opened up into a beautiful French style horticultural sanctuary: the Governor’s Garden, an example of garden design of the New France era more than 200 years ago. The beautiful thing is that access is always free of charge and the extensive garden provides a welcome relief of nature in the middle of the stone buildings of Vieux Montréal.

Most of the plants are derived from species cultivated in New France and the garden is subdivided into three sections: the kitchen garden, an orchard and a pleasure garden. Benches invite you to sit down and enjoy the serenity of this green space. At the back of the garden is a ramp leading up to a restaurant, the “Cafe du Chateau”, with a large terrace covered by an awning that features wooden tables. I had found the perfect spot for a lunch.

So I sat down and started jotting down my impressions in my travel journal and perused the menu which features a variety of salads, sandwiches, desserts and refreshments. I decided on some light fare and ordered an endive salad with little balls of goat cheese, covered in pistachios, pine nuts and miniature croutons, followed by a wonderful Quebec cheese plate that featured three different types of Quebec-made cheese, fresh grapes, cut-up green apples, and a paste made from dry dates and toast.

The meal was very savoury and the contrasting tastes of the three cheeses together with the sweet tastes of the fruit and the date paste presented an interesting variety of flavours to my palate. I was enjoying my meal and noticed that from my table I could even see the cupola of the Bonsecours Market peaking out between the old buildings.

Unfortunately my serenity was cut short as the heavens opened up and a tremendous thunderstorm started pelting the city. I decided that rather than wait out this storm on the terrace of the Café du Chateau, I was going to use my time to actually explore the museum that was housed in the adjoining building.

The Chateau de Ramezay is a mansion that was built in 1705 for Claude de Ramezay, Montreal’s governor. Fourty years later it fell into the hands of the French West Indies Company which made it its headquarters. After the conquest in 1760 the building was occupied by the British. It is known that General Richard Montgomery and Benjamin Franklin, among other personalities, have visited the Château.

In the spring of 1893 the government owned the building, but it had no use for it and put it up for auction. It was saved from demolition and has been operating as a museum since 1895. For the last four years the building hosts a permanent exhibition about the history of Montreal and Quebec, covering prehistory all the way until the early 20th century.

As the thunderstorm was pelting the city I decided to educate myself a little more about early life in Montreal. The exhibits include historic paintings, furniture, as well as everyday items illustrating life over the last few hundred years in what started out as Ville-Marie and came to be known as Montreal. The items illustrating the day-to-day life of regular people fascinated me the most, such as ladies shoes, a fireman’s helmet or a children’s winter coat, a sleigh and a “pennyfarthing”, an early version of a bicycle, featuring an oversized front wheel and a tiny rear wheel. A loom and various every-day implements further illustrate life in the new colonies over the last couple of hundred years.

Until October 1, 2006 a temporary exhibition is also housed by the Chateau de Ramezay: “Gardening in Paris during the Monarchy” introduces the visitors to the formal gardens of Paris more than 200 years ago. An upcoming exhibition called “Crime and Punishment’ will talk about justice in the new colonies.

I had found the perfect way to deal with the thunderstorm: brush up on Montreal’s history at the Chateau de Ramezay. Now it was time to head back to rest up for my evening explorations of the St. Denis neighbourhood and a tasty Mexican dinner at La Iguana.

Lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the lymph nodes and is known as cancer of the lymphoid tissue. We know two categories of lymphomas: Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

We are going to talk about a rare type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, mantle cell lymphoma. This type of cancer can be defined as an enlargement of the population of malignant lymphoid cells, happening in the area of the lymph nodes and tissues. These cells have an unusual structure being considered as mutant cells because of their lack of development. Maturing improperly these cells become cancerous.

The lymphatic system helps the body to fight against infections or foreign particles. When the white cells are mature they seek for infections through the body. There are two types of white cells in the lymphatic system, the B cells and the T cells. Once an infection is found by the B cells, the second type of white cells, the T ones come to destroy it. This is how the immune system works.

Lymphomas are cancerous cells from the lymphatic system. The non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas that occur in the lymphatic system include follicular lymphomas, Burkitt’s lymphomas which are non-cleaved lymphomas, MALT lymphomas which are lymphomas from the marginal sides of the tissues, small and large cell lymphomas, and the subject of discussion, the mantle cell lymphomas (MCL).

The classification of the mantle cell lymphomas separates them into three categories: mantle zone type MCL cells, nodular type and immature (blastic) type. Diagnoses, in most of the cases, refer to mixed mantle or nodular type MCL.

The mantle cell lymphoma is a great concern, many specialists debating over this subject. Some consider it intermediate while others say that mantle cell lymphoma is a low-grade cancer because of its slow development. Both of these sides come with arguments based on studies and both sides are right. Patients suffering of blastic type MCL have less chances of survival comparing to the other MCL patients, because in these cases cancer spreads faster.

Persons suffering of mantle cell lymphoma are rarely under 50 and women represent a little more than a quarter in the patients number.

It’s not easy to say if a patient suffers of mantle cell lymphoma. Some believe that an immunologic test is required for a correct diagnosis.

Treatment is prescript by specialists, because each case is unique and is related to many factors like age, sex and especially stage of disease.

The Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.

Another issue to be addressed is that some of the historical background on many of the practices are based on specific exercises and postures that were created to facilitate specific energetic processes and little explanation other than to just do the exercises is commonly taught to beginners.

High level Chi Kung skills like so many other advanced practices can require years of dedication and practice to develop and many potential students of Chi Kung start because they see a demonstration or hear about a high level skill and desire to learn it. Unfortunately, many Chi Kung teachers feel that the beginner must earn the right to learn the real material and see little reason to give any incentive to the beginner. So, often training begins with a simple practice that does not contain any real immediate Chi activation so when the first practice is to stand in one place and breathe every day for several months or longer or practice the 8 postures without any incentive many would be Chi Kung Masters simply quit due to not understanding or not having enough patience for the traditional process. As a result there are few truly skilled Westerners in this art form. We feel it is time for this situation to change.

We are pleased to offer a text for Westerners to get a real glimpse and basic understanding into the practices of Chi activation, cultivation and flow that will give the practitioner enough knowledge and incentive to advance their studies in this fascinating discipline. We offer various programs and workshops in Chi Energy training from beginner to advanced and much of what is in this text is at the beginning of many of our programs. The information in this book applied to Tai Chi, martial arts or energetic arts of any kind will greatly aid and benefit those practices. We hope you enjoy this book and that it begins or adds to your journey in the Mind Body and Spirit Healing Arts.

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Vitamin b12 in the following paragraphs. If there’s at least one fact you didn’t know before, imagine the difference it might make.

The debate about the necessity of taking dietary supplements is still raging. While many health care professionals believe we get all we need from the foods we eat, others prefer to offer extra vitamins when their patients are under a stress such as pregnancy or illness or even aging, when the body’s function is impaired or overloaded.

Studies have proven that taking extra B group vitamins, especially folic acid and B12 have reduced birth defects by 72 to 100%. And since regulations authorizing the addition of folic acid to grains have come into force, the incidence of birth defects in the USA has dropped by 19%, though sceptics claim there could be other reasons.

So what are some of the symptoms of Vitamin B12 deficiency?

Vegans (vegetarians who also avoid dairy and eggs) frequently become deficient, though the process often takes many years. People with malabsorption conditions, including those with tapeworm infestation and those with bacterial overgrowth in the intestines, often suffer from vitamin B12 deficiency. Malabsorption of vitamin B12 can also result from pancreatic disease, the effects of gastro-intestinal surgery, or various prescription drugs.

Studies have also suggested that when elderly people suffer from depression it is caused by a lack of folate (B9). It should be taken with B6 And B12 to help its absorption and function in the body. These three vitamins work closely together and help relieve symptoms of depression. They do this by decreasing the amount of homocysteine, which is thought to play an active part in causing the depression. Sometimes the amount of folate in proportion to the other two may need to be increased.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Vitamin b12 than you may have first thought.

Pernicious anaemia is a special form of vitamin B12 malabsorption due to impaired ability of certain cells in the stomach to make intrinsic factor—a substance needed for normal absorption of vitamin B12. By definition, all people with pernicious anaemia are vitamin B12-deficient. They require either vitamin B12 injections or oral supplementation with very high levels (1000 mcg per day) of vitamin B12.

Several population-based studies across the USA have found that various cancers are less prevalent in people who have high levels of folic acid. These people also consumed high amounts of beta-carotene, vitamin C and fiber. One very large study of 50,000 women found that adequate intakes of folate significantly reduced the risk of breast cancer.

Some prescription medications for inflammatory bowel disease have been found to interfere with the bodies ability to absorb folate (folic acid) and the deficiency has also been linked to male infertility and heart disease.

Foods that offer the most folic acid are dark leafy greens, brewers yeast, beef liver, some seafood, orange juice and milk. Root vegetables and whole grains also provide small amounts.

Side effects from folic acid supplements are rare, though they can occur if the dose exceeds 15000 mcg. Taking any one of the B group of vitamins alone can cause a deficiency in the others, so don’t be part smart. Find out if you really do need it and make sure your health care professional knows you intend to take it. Some prescription medicines like antibiotics and warfarin can react adversely to this supplement, while others like ibuprofen and aspirin can actually cause a deficiency. Methotrexate, used to treat some cancer and rheumatoid arthritis increases the body’s need for folic acid, and its side-effects are greatly reduced by addition of this vitamin without impairing its effectiveness, so if you must take this drug, be sure see your health care professional about adding folic acid to your diet.

This article’s coverage of the information is as complete as it can be today. But you should always leave open the possibility that future research could uncover new facts.

The world of aerobics, fitness and gym has evolved incredibly over the last thirty years, if we consider the 70s we can notice that back then only a few hospitals had equipment designed especially for medical treatments. The first to appear were the treadmills so in the early years we cannot speak about any elliptical vs treadmill comparison. Theoretically you can obtain the same performances or medical results by using both solutions. The elliptical however offers the user a more secure environment to practice a wide range of exercises speeding up recovery from joint injuries. Elliptical trainers are very effective in treating cardiovascular problems associated with old age, the elderly are not very comfortable on a machine that runs under them like the treadmill. In the parallel elliptical vs treadmill, the former brings a medical approach to physical exercises while the latter involves training for the sake of working out.

Treadmills are a very common thing in gyms and households, their manufacturing has developed intensely over the last decade evolving in a powerful industry branch. Ellipticals on the other hand are less familiar for the average body builder as they are more specialized gear. One first point to make out in the elliptical vs treadmill comparison is the impact that free elliptical solutions have for one’s health, practically most of the possible injuries are eliminated from the start by the innovative design of the items. On the other hand the treadmill offers a more natural running experience, which is why a professional runner will definitively prefer a treadmill. For example if you are preparing for a long marathon you won’t use an elliptical but a quality treadmill.

From the medical point of view the elliptical vs treadmill comparison is very interesting, it has been discovered recently that by using an elliptical you can burn the same amount of calories as with a treadmill, but with less effort. There are many elderly patients that have knee problems for which such innovative machines as the ellipticals can be the solution. An interesting feature that ellipticals offer is the possibility to reverse the pedal motion. In this reversed mode the exercises are completely different, the motion is totally new which is a big plus when compared to the one way treadmills work. Different groups of muscles can be activated very easily by such reversed movement, hence from this point of view the elliptical can support the exercising of all you body muscles.

Ironite is a substance that homeowners can add to the soil of their lawn to make the grass green. However, you do need to know whether your soil does need to have this solution because some grasses are yellow in color and will not turn green no matter what you add to the soil. Before you start using this product, you do need to test the soil to see whether or not it actually does have a deficiency. For example, Kentucky Blue Grass does have a yellowish color, which means it is important to know what you can expect before you even seed the lawn.

According to some environmentalists, there are also problems with using this product to grow vegetables. It is a chemical and you do run the risk of some of this chemical getting into the vegetables. Two of the waste products that are in this product are arsenic and lead and according to some opponents of its use, these ingredients meet the requirements of being a hazardous waste. However, when you read the label you will have the impression that it is environmentally friendly and safe to use in all situations.

According to the company that manufactures this product, using this product does not pose a health risk to humans when it is used on lawns. Neither does it pose a risk for the flowers and shrubs in your garden and will certainly help them to grow and thrive. The forms of lead and arsenic in the product will not escape into the environment. According to the executives of the company, if you do consume vegetables have grown in soil treated with Ironite, the ingredients in the product will simply pass through your system without any harmful effects.

Gardeners have successfully used this product since the mid-1950 and there has never been any cases of health problems as a result. The company claims it has never been sued or fined, and this most definitely would have happened if it was discovered that the product was a health risk. However there are cases before the courts with charges of selling products that are unsafe for consumers to use. The company experts that have tested the product will tell you that the amounts of arsenic and lead it does contain are the least toxic form of these materials. At the same time, there is a possibility that the soil and weather conditions can play a role in transforming them into more toxic forms, but this is not the fault of the product itself.

Scientists are concerned about the effects that the use of this product in crop production could have on small children. It use in helping a lawn to grow is not really of any concern in this area. Since childrens bodies do retain minerals from the food they eat, eating foods from soil treated with this product could potentially pose a health risk to them. There is no law requiring the company to list all the ingredients on the label, which is why many people are not aware of what it actually contains.

Who knew that cleaning a dish could be so complicated? A trip down the grocery store’s “dishwashing detergent” aisle reveals shelves stacked high with chemical solutions of every strength, scent, and toxicity. Detergent companies have made tremendous strides in improving their products we can trust our detergents to kill germs and remove all but the tiniest remnants of food stuck to our dishes but without exception, they’ve come up short on a solution to the most subtle and stubborn stains and discolorations. Even the best cleaning products, whether applied by hand or machine, struggle to maintain our glasses’ and silverware’s shining appearance.

Most of us know the phenomena by now: that slow, irreversible dulling of our silverware; that clouding that seeps into our glassware, resisting all the detergents and vinegar-based treatments that we throw at it. Most of us are resigned to it, or are resigned to using synthetic treatments as damaging to our skin and to the environment as they are beneficial to our dishware. Effective, non-toxic products that can restore the shine on our long-suffering dishes remain as hard to come by as ever.

That’s what makes products like the Grease Bullet such exceptional finds. Inexpensive, non-toxic, and extraordinarily effective, the Grease Bullet restores the luster on dulled silverware and cloudy glassware like no other product can. Combining the Grease Bullet with hot water creates a natural cleaning solution in which enzymes dissolve even the smallest, most persistent, and most deeply-rooted grease stains. The Grease Bullet works with remarkable speed, freeing dishware from its oldest layers of grease and grime almost on contact.

Internet users have been among the first to discover the value of the Grease Bullet. Video testimonials posted on the World Wide Web speak to the astonishing effectiveness of this hugely useful product, and diverse internet sites continue to generate the better part of the product’s sales.
